Konkona happy for being offered roles on Tagore's work

Konkona happy for being offered roles on Tagore's work

Kolkata: Actress Konkona Sen Sharma said she is grateful and happy for receiving roles based on the work of Rabindranath Tagore.

Konkona would be next seen in "Sajarur Kanta", where she otherwise plays Deepa in the film, but takes on the role of Nandini from Tagore`s classic play `Raktakarabi` as member of a theatre troupe staging the play.

"It gives a high to me," the award-winning actress, 34, said while speaking on her character Nandini of Tagore`s `Raktakarabi`.

"I am happy that characters with Tagorean references are coming my way a lot more these days," she said.

Earlier, she played `Kadombori` in Tagore`s much-acclaimed work "Sesher Kobita". Recalling how she grasped the typical Tagorean touch in the dialogue of Nandini, Konkona said, "I found the parts a bit difficult. But the workshop with Sohag Sen (theatre personality) helped as I worked towards perfecting the lines and nuances and memorised the words."

"I have to become the Nandini of `Raktakarabi` as people have certain perceptions about her, while Labanya is also a well-known character in `Sesher Kobita`. So though it is a challenge to live upto the perceptions, my portrayals are based on my understanding and homework," Konkona said.

She acknowledged the role of her mother (Aparna Sen) in helping to get a grip on the character Nandini. The director of the film, Saibal Mitra, said Konkona`s Deepa in `Sajarur Kanta` is a vital cog in the crime thriller with a romantic angle.

Konkona, who was the female lead in "Page 3", said she was fine with all kinds of films and acknowledged the fact that she had been offered interesting projects in Bengali.

Actor Dhritiman Chatterjee of Satyajit Ray`s `Pratidwandi` fame, enacts the 60-plus Byomkesh Bakshi in the film, which is set in present day Kolkata.

Salman Khan's 2002 hit-and-run case: Witnesses depose in court

Salman Khan's 2002 hit-and-run case: Witnesses depose in court

New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's troubles seem to be a never ending saga. The re-trial of actor's most infamous 2002 hit-and-run case started Monday in the Mumbai sessions court. The trial began with a number of witnesses deposing before the court. However, the actor himself was missing from all the action.

One of the first witnesses to depose in the court, Samba Gowda, said he had drawn panchnama of the articles seized by police on the day of the incident on September 28, 2002.

The witness told prosecutor Jagannath Kenjalkar that it was a big car involved in the accident and said police had reached the spot along with him. He further said the car had rammed into a laundry and its bumper had hit the shutter of the shop. The witness said he saw glass pieces, number plate of the car and bumper parts lying on the spot. These articles were seized by police and a panchnama was drawn by him.

"I can identify the articles collected by police from the place of accident," said Gowda, who hails from Karnataka.

Two more witnesses were discharged as they had admitted the panchnamas drawn by them.

According to the public prosecutor, although a list of 64 witnesses has been submitted by the prosecution, it would not examine all of them.

Earlier, the case was deferred by the court till April 28th, 2014 as the prosecution sought time to produce witnesses in view of police deployment on election duty.

Sessions Judge D W Deshpande had asked the prosecution to produce on April 28 the first witness who was injured in the mishap in which the actor was involved, followed by eye witnesses in May.

On March 26, three witnesses failed to turn up as they were either not available or untraceable making this the second occasion when the fresh trial has not begun in the case.

The Bollywood superstar is facing the charges of running over his Toyota Land Cruiser on people sleeping on a footpath outside a bakery in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002, killing one and injuring four others.

Women's roles in Bollywood are changing: Katrina Kaif

Mumbai: Actress Katrina Kaif thinks that the portrayal of women in Bollywood films has changed. "The portrayal of women has changed over a period of time... The kind of roles and films that are being made with women are great. We not only have women-centric films but even in a love story, where hero and heroine have equal role, the characters of women are strong and not stereotypical," Katrina, 30, said.

"Earlier the roles of women were more or less same, they were repeated, but today there is a difference. And people are loving it," she said.

L`Oreal Paris brand ambassadors Katrina, Aishwarya Rai and Sonam Kapoor came together to celebrate India`s women achievers at the third edition of the L`Oreal Paris Femina Women Awards yesterday.

Fifteen women from different walks of life were felicitated. "We actors work for gratification, money, fame, acknowledgement. These women who won awards do things not for financial reasons or anything," Katrina said.

Dad is possessive, doesn't want me to get married: Alia

Dad is possessive, doesn't want me to get married: Alia
Mumbai: Actress Alia Bhatt says her father and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is possessive about her, but adds that he has taken her on-screen kissing with Arjun Kapoor in the forthcoming film "2 States" practically.

"Like every father, who don’t want their daughters to get married, even my father is the same,” Alia said in a group interview.

“Recently, my father told us (Alia and her sister Shaheen) you all can’t go anywhere, I will lock you up in a room. He is honest and blunt about the fact that he doesn`t want us to get married.

“He is not saying just like that, he means it. He is very possessive and he doesn`t want me to get married. If my sister’s boyfriends get me some present, he would say - even I can get presents, I will get you two," she added.

Currently, the actress is looking forward to her forthcoming film “2 States”.

She has a kissing scene in the film and when asked about her “possessive” father’s reaction on the same, she said: “But he knows I am acting …but, if I kiss my boyfriend in front of him, he will slap me.

“It’s in the scene and I am not doing it to irritate him. It’s a family film and the scene is just for three seconds.”

Directed by Abhishek Verman, “2 States” is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller of the same name and the actress has read the book three times.

She said: “I have to be as natural as possible. I read the book three times before we started shooting.”

“I knew Arjun was on board… but I never thought I will be part of the film. I got a call for a look test and the point being that I should look good with Arjun. I was hoping it comes to me and it did. It’s a big achievement for me," she said.

The actress, who garnered rave reviews for her performance in her last release “Highway”, says there was a reason behind doing “2 States”.

“After ‘Highway’ I wanted people to say I am an actor and that I am not here to be a star. I would not like to be five or six films old …so I want to make sure I am an actor," she said.

Kalki Koechlin reveals was sexually abused as a child

Kalki Koechlin reveals was sexually abused as a child

Dubai: Kalki Koechlin has revealed that she was sexually abused as a child and the reason she didn`t speak about it earlier is because for her it`s not a one day headline, it`s something that`s a reality she has lived with for a long time.

The Bollywood actress said that it took her many, many years to even come out and talk about her experience.

The ` Dev D` star asserted that her writing, art and acting is therapeutic for her because it helps her to release things out.

She said that everybody has different outlets as long as there are places where you can do that, adding that not everybody has privilege to talk about it openly.

Koechlin also urged other women and children to talk about it, if not to the world than with someone they can trust.

Parth is hero of ‘Bhoothnath Returns’: Amitabh Bachchan

Parth is hero of ‘Bhoothnath Returns’: Amitabh Bachchan

Mumbai: Amitabh Bachchan is himself a part of `Bhoothnath Returns`, but the megastar says child talent Parth Bhalerao is the film’s hero. He calls the little boy a "commensurate performer”, who left even seasoned professionals behind with his performance.

In an interview, Big B spoke about the movie, his experience and his future projects. Excerpts:

Q. Another film `Bhoothnath Returns` (BR) is on release. This time your co-star is a child actor. From the time you sang `Mere paas aao` in `Mr. Natwarlal`, you`ve shared a very special rapport with your young fans.

A. `Child is the Father of the Man`, said Williams Wordsworth, and not without reason! Yes, working with children has been a wonderful experience. They are unpredictable and spontaneous, completely innovative and a joy to be with. Parth, who plays the little boy in `Bhoothnath Returns` is a commensurate performer, a mature artist and the hero of the film. Even seasoned professionals sometimes are unable to convincingly go through the gamut of emotions that this boy has in BR. He is an exceptional young man.

Q. What was Parth Bhalerao like to work with? How different is it to work with a child co-star as compared to working with an adult co-star?

A. As I just said, his performance does not look like that of a child. He performs as an adult, mature and confident and full of self-belief, completely uninhibited, a rare quality.

Q. Your association with B.R. Chopra`s banner goes back to `Zameer`.

A. Ravi Chopra (son of late B.R. Chopra) has been unwell for several years now and bed-ridden. It has been painful to see him in such a condition. Not for me or for the film or for any other, I hope that the film does well. It would give him some respite.

Q. How do you manage to keep the faith alive for so many decades?

A. I think `manage` is a rather harsh word when we talk of relationships. In creative processes what matters is the value of the content, and of course the confidence that each party has in the ability of the other. Ravi Chopra made his directorial debut with `Zameer` and has remained a friend since then. We may not have worked together for a long time since, but the relationship has been constant. Then when he came with `Baghban` we readily agreed, followed by `Baabul` and `Bhootnath` and now BR.

Q. You`re about to start `Piku` with Shoojit Sircar where you share screen space with Irrfan Khan for the first time. He expresses immense excitement at the prospect of working with you?

A. Shoojit and I have worked together very often, first in commercials that he directed, and then in a film that lies unreleased with the producers. There is a mutual respect that we share. We have discussed many subjects for feature films on and off, and now finally he wishes to make `Piku`, which we start in a month or so. I look forward to working with him again. Irfan is a talent most rare. I have loved all his work immensely. Even the work he does in commercials. I am equally excited to be in the same frame as him.

Q. Besides `Piku`, which are the other film projects that you`ve agreed to take on?

A. I start R. Balki`s film this month and shall go on with that for a couple of months along with Shoojit`s `Piku`. There is simultaneously work being concluded on the TV serial that I am doing with Endemol, Anurag Kashyap and his team for Sony Entertainment Telvision.

That shall be followed by `Kaun Banega Crorepati` and by the end of the year there will be Vidhu Vinod Chopra`s production with Farhan Akhtar, being directed by Bejoy Nambiar. Sudhir Mishra`s `Mehrunissa` and a few others are also on, and shall take shape early next year.

New York Indian Film Festival to feature regional cinema

New York: The New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), to be held May 5-10, will feature 34 films from, about or connected to the Indian subcontinent -- all seen for the first time in the Big Apple.

The festival screenings of 23 narrative and 11 documentary films highlight various cinemas of India`s different regions - Marathi, Bengali and two films from the northeast.

Additionally, the festival covers cinemas from the neighbouring South Asian countries - four films by Pakistani filmmakers, two from Sri Lanka - a feature and a documentary, and one from Nepal.

The festival`s Marathi films include "Postcard" and multiple-award winning films "Astu" and "Fandry".

Directed by Nagraj Manjule, "Fandry" revolves around an `untouchable` or Dalit boy and his love for a girl from a higher caste.

"We are thrilled to be able to share this film with New York audiences," said Aseem Chhabra, NYIFF festival director.

" `Fandry` is, in my book, perhaps the best film made in India in 2013," he added.

Among the Pakistani entrants, Meenu Gaur and Farjad Nabi`s "Zinda Bhaag" is notable for being Pakistan`s submission for the foreign language Oscar race after over 50 years.

Set in Lahore, the film follows three young men desperate to get on the fast track to success in an eye-opening glimpse of modern Pakistan. The film also features veteran Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah.

"Acceptance", by Ryan Matthew Chan (World Premiere), tells the true story of an underprivileged scholar from India (played by newcomer Vinesh Nagrani) who lies about being accepted into Harvard University to gain access to the opulent life of his peers.

"An American In Madras", a documentary by Karan Bali, traces American-born filmmaker Ellis R. Dungan`s years in India.

The documentary "Songs Of The Blue Hills", directed by Utpal Borpujari, will also be a NYIFF 2014 world premiere and is one of the two films from the northeast.

"The 2014 festival features a wide array of films from all over the South Asian diaspora," stated IAAC founder Aroon Shivdasani.

"If I could have my way, then I would like to give a gap for four months between both the films. We were not expecting that `Queen` will be running even now. People have accepted my performance in `Queen` and I personally like my character in the film. I hope when people go to watch `Revolver Rani`, they accept me in the same way."

"`Revolver Rani` is an unusual film... the treatment, the concept, everything is different," she added.

Directed by Sai Kabir, "Revolver Rani" features Kangna in the lead.

Attending awards an expensive affair: Kangna

Mumbai: Actress Kangna Ranaut, who has been critically acclaimed for her performance in "Queen", however says she is not interested in awards as attending awards is an expensive affair.

"These days there are so many awards...and we have to sit there for five to six hours. To attend the awards, we have to do make up, hair style... bahut mehenga padta hai (its an expensive affair)...I am not saying awards are not genuine. I have received awards for `Gangster`, `Fashion`....

"These days, there are so many awards... its like you are giving awards just to make everyone happy," Kangna told reporters during the press conference of "Revolver Rani" here Thursday.

The actress, who is playing the protagnist in "Revolver Rani", says this is the most difficult role she has ever played.

Kissing, bikini is OK, but no nudity: Alia Bhatt

Kissing, bikini is OK, but no nudity: Alia Bhatt

Mumbai: Alia Bhatt donned a bikini in `Student of the Year` and she has done kissing scenes in `SOTY` and the upcoming `2 states`. But, the young actress says that she would never do a nude scene as she is not comfortable with it.

"I would never go ahead and do a nude scene as it is something I am not comfortable doing," Alia said in an interview here.

She also said that the kissing scene in `2 states` is just to portray th level of intimacy between the leads and should not be the focal point of the audience.

"This film (2 States) starts where most rom-coms end, it starts with them already being a relationship and wants to get married. So to justify the fact that they are together for a while... There is intimacy between them. They are modern, forward thinking and at the same time very cultured and cater to conservative family. You see it (kissing) for three seconds in the trailer and that is how it is in the film," Alia said.

Defending that the scene is not for promotion Alia further added, "It is not added for promotion. For marriage, it is important to be in love, in the film they are in love.. Kissing and then they show family part also. It is important part of the book because Krish`s character is avoiding Anaya as he wants to be with her every time he sees her."

The actress admitted that `2 States` is a family film and the scene has been tastefully done, and that she wants the families to enjoy it, also adding that it kissing is not looked down upon any more.

"There is awkwardness. I feel it is acting at the end of the day.. He is playing Krish and I am playing Anaya we are not Arjun and Alia when we are doing that scene. This film is not about just that one kiss, the only reason it is written about is because Arjun and I said it is ok (to have it)," she said.

"People don`t look down upon it any more if done tastefully then the audience will be put off. It is a U/A film, it is a family film and we want family to come and enjoy the film," she said.

Alia Bhatt wants an honest man!

Alia Bhatt wants an honest man!

New Delhi: Alia Bhatt has rigged up lots of speculations around her after she spilled the beans that she would love to get married to Ranbir Kapoor on the sets of `Koffee With Karan`

At the book launch of `2 States`, Alia very casually slipped out that her ideal man would be the one who is honest, loyal and has some sense of humour.

Now has the grapes gone sour between the 21-year-old actress and her alleged beau `Arjun Kapoor`?
The two of them had been in the news for the sensuous chemistry which is quite evident in the trailer of their upcoming movie `2 States`.

Though they have conveniently denied rumours of being in relationship, the selfie that they clicked recently and shared on Twitter speaks otherwise.

Is it slightly possible that the `Highway` actress` was hinting of Arjun when she stated the qualities that she wanted to see in her partner?

Well, we can only guess!

Mumbai: The `Ram-Leela` couple is back! Actress Deepika Padukone will play historical character Mastani with Ranveer Singh playing Bajirao Peshwa in Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s `Bajirao Mastani`.

The casting of Ranveer and Deepika puts an end to months of speculation about who would play the role. Besides Ranveer, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn were the strongest contenders for Bajirao`s role.

As for Mastani, Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were also considered.

"Sanjay Leela Bhansali was keen on Deepika for Mastani`s part. But she couldn`t seem to accommodate the long schedules required for `Bajirao Mastani`, specially since she gave the nod to Karan Johar`s `Shuddhi` which would take up close to 150 shooting days," said a source.

However, later Deepika is said to have informed the director that she would be able to fit `Bajirao Mastani` into her schedule.

That`s the kind of treatment the film is carrying."

Telugu film 'Chandamama Lo Amrutham' gets its own game

Chennai: After Indian films "Krrish 3" and "Kochadaiiyaan", Telugu comedy-drama "Chandamama Lo Amrutham" gets a web game titled "Amrutham - The Game", which will be used as an innovative marketing tool to promote the film.

"Chandamama Lo Amrutham" is based on popular Telugu sitcom "Amrutham" and the film`s director Gunnam Gangaraju says the game will create the much needed pre-release buzz for the film.

"How long can we rely on traditional promotional strategy to market our films? Besides reading about a particular film in papers, audiences have to create a bond with the film even before its release. I think that`s only possible through a game, which will help create good pre-release buzz as well," director Gangaraju told IANS.

Also produced by Gangaraju, the film features Srinivasa Avasarala, Dhanya Balakrishnan, Harish and Vasu Inturi in the lead roles.

"We have designed the game in such a way that even the characters in it are named after the characters in the film. By doing so, you are allowing the audience to connect with the characters even before the release of the movie," he Gangaraju.

Inspired by Temple Run, "Amrutham - The Game" will see characters running and collecting `idlis` to earn maximum points.

My private life nobody's business, says Waheeda Rehman

My private life nobody's business, says Waheeda Rehman

Mumbai: Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman, who has done a number of memorable films with Guru Dutt, today refused to talk about her reported relationship with the late film director.

"I don`t want to get into it. My private life should remain private. It is nobody`s business. I know we are public figures, so when I fight with my husband do you want to know about it?" Rehman said replying to a query about her reported relationship with Guru Dutt.

The actress was present at the launch of `Conversations with Waheeda Rehman` a book written by Nasreen Munni Kabir.

The author of the book came to Rehman`s rescue saying, "we should respect the actor`s personal life and not cross the line. She is loved by all of us and not (relationship)."

Even in the book, Rehman has chosen not to talk about her private life.

Asked why the directors fell in love with the heroines, she said "not all! As they (directors) have to think from hero`s perspective. All the directors were in love with me."

Rehman had worked with Dutt in films like `CID`, `Pyaasa`, `Chaudhvin Ka Chand`, `Kagaz Ke Phool`, `Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam` and others.

Talking about Dutt`s death, Rehman says "nobody knows. I don`t think he was in depression after the failure of Kagaz Ke Phool as `Chaudhvin Ka Chand` did quite well."

Dutt was found dead in his apartment under mysterious circumstances in 1964.

`Conversations With Waheeda Rehman` includes insights into her childhood, her years with Guru Dutt, her experiences on other key films, filmmakers like Satyajit Ray and Vijay Anand.

Kangana Ranaut says she's not following in Aamir Khan's footsteps

Kangana Ranaut says she's not following in Aamir Khan's footsteps

New Delhi: Kangana Ranaut, who has decided not to attend any award functions in the future, has insisted that she is not following in footsteps of Aamir Khan, who is also known for his lack of appearance on shows.

On being asked if she was planning to do a film with Khan, the 27-year-old said that though they would both like to work with each other, it is not her priority as an actor.

"I think our goals are to do things that excite us and along the way if we find that opportunity is great. But I don`t think that is my immediate goal and yes Mr. Aamir Khan is one of my favorite actor`s and it`s not that I am trying to be like someone. The thing I said about awards is my personal choice and it`s not that I am following someone`s footsteps," she said.

The `Queen` star was present to launch Krux stationery products at a recent event in Mumbai.

Waheeda Rehman was against wearing bikini and changing name

Waheeda Rehman was against wearing bikini and changing name

Mumbai: Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman today said that she was clear on two things when she started her film career - one that she will not wear a bikini and other that she would not change her name as was the phenomenon at that point of a time.

Though some actresses of her times featured in films wearing a bikini, feels she did not have the figure to carry it well.

The book titled `Conversations with Waheeda Rehman` by author Nasreen Munni Kabir was launched this evening by the actress.

"I remember when I was working with Guru Dutt I had incorporated a clause in the contract that I would have the final say on the costumes and won`t wear costumes that I don`t like. He (Guru Dutt) wanted me to watch his films which I did, but I was adamant about having the clause," Rehman said at the book launch event here.

"I didn`t want to wear a bikini as I feel I don`t have the figure. In fact I have never worn a sleeveless blouse also be it in films or in my personal life," she said.

When asked about today`s actresses, who wear bikini on screen, Rehman says that times have changed and that those who have figure can afford to wear it.

Rehman was also sure she won`t change her name as was the case that time with actors like Dilip Kumar, Madhubala and others.

"People told me my name was long and lengthy and had asked me to change it. That time change of name was a fashion then as actors like Dilip Kumar, Madhubala, Meena Kumari had changed their names. I was adamant that I will not change my name as it was given by my parents," she added.
Of all the roles that she portrayed on screen the character of Rosie from the film Guide was something that Rehman liked a lot.

"I think I was destined to play Rosie as Vijay Anand and Satyajit Ray both were contemplating to make a film like this. But it was Vijay who made it. I got the chance to dance as no one thought I could do it. The role was different as most of them were not ready to play the role of a married woman, who lives with another man as she is abandoned by her husband," Rehman said.

"I wanted to play a different kind of roles. I am glad this part came to me. It was challenging and I loved doing this film," she said.

Dad took 31 years to be a star, give me 15: Soundarya Rajinikanth

Dad took 31 years to be a star, give me 15: Soundarya Rajinikanth

Mumbai: Soundarya may have played it safe with her directorial debut "Kochadaiiyaan" by teaming up with her superstar father Rajinikanth, but she is feeling the pressure of high expectations. She said if her dad took over three decades to attain stardom, she should be given at least half the time to prove herself.

She said: "It`s a tough life for star kids...for people they are stars; for us, they are the people that we know."

"As star children, we face the expectations, which is as much as that of the achievers who are the fathers or mothers who took so much time to achieve it. My father is a superstar now, but he took 31 years to reach here, at least give me 15 years," the 30-year-old, who is married to Chennai-based businessman Ashwin, told.

Rajinikanth, who rose to meteoric heights from a bus conductor to Tamil cinema`s superstar, enjoys a huge fan following.

Achievers` children can`t afford to take their lineage for granted, Soundarya said.

"Be it in any business, when the achievers` children enter, the expectation and pressure on them are much more. Yes, we do have an access no doubt, but there is too much of pressure," she said.

"Kochadaiiyaan", a Rs.125-crore film, said to be India`s first motion capture photo-realistic 3D animated movie, is expected to release worldwide May 1 on about 6,000 screens in six languages.

Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone plays the female lead opposite Rajinikanth in the film, which also features Jackie Shroff, R. Sarath Kumar, Shobana, Nasser, Aadi Pinisetty and Rukmini.

Shot predominantly in Ocher studios, owned by Soundarya, the film features no live locations. Everything was shot indoors.

Sharing the shooting experience with her dad, she vouched for his professionalism and punctuality.

She said: "My father is a thorough professional - what the script demands, what the director demands, he will do it. Even if the director is convinced with the shot and the actor of his seniority thinks he can do better, he will take that extra effort as an actor even if the director says it`s okay."

"Time punctuality? My god! He is the most punctual person I have ever seen...the discipline he has on the floor is outstanding," she added.

Soundarya, who has a clear idea about what fans expect from her father on the screen, said "Kochadaiiyaan" has all the commercial elements that will excite viewers.

"We have done a lot of commercial elements that will excite my dad`s fans. For me, my father doing Rudra Tandav excites me. The feedback I have received from my father`s fans has been commendable.

"What the audience wants from my father is that they want to see him on the screen as commercial star because they are used to seeing him like that.

"My father`s older movies, if you have seen, are performance-oriented roles. He reached a stage in his life where he became the mass hero where people wanted him to be just that - larger than life... Entertainment is what my father`s fans want," she added.

The Tamil period-drama has been passed with a U-certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification.

Soundarya, however, lamented that animation is still not understood in India.

"In our country, animation is not understood yet. Animation is associated with cartoons and it is very tough for us as technicians. Animation is a process and the toughest part for me was to explain the process.

"Films like this take six to seven years to make. As soon as I finished shooting, everybody was like when can we see the film? But it`s like you can only see the dots, it`s like the capture point. People feel the film has been delayed, but it`s not delayed. It`s a time-consuming process," Soundarya added.

I Keep my fee low, so films can recover: Imran Khan

I Keep my fee low, so films can recover: Imran Khan

Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan says one has to deal with box office flops and that his way of ensuring profit for the makers is to keep his remuneration in check.

"I have never worked for money, and the money that I take all depends on the film," he said when asked if he has slashed his fee while his films are not doing well.

"I have never been someone who is motivated by money or will not do a film if the price is not right. I always want my price to be low so that the film can recover. If the film does well, then you take profit... that`s the basic thing you can do."

Although he had good number of releases in the form of "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola", "Once Upon ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara!” and "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein", none could set the cash register ringing.

The 31-year-old, who started his career with 2008 super hit puppy love story "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na", says coping with failure is important for survival in showbiz.

He said: "As far as films not doing well is concerned, if you can`t deal with that, then you should not be working in the film industry, because the reality of the business is that you will have more flops than hits. If you can`t accept it, then you must get out."

"I am sure something must have gone wrong, but what you have to take with you is a lesson. I have worked hard but people have not liked it and it`s fine," he added

Mumbai: Southern superstar Rajinikanth holds a matinee idol status among his fans because of his honesty and sincerity, says his daughter Soundarya.

"I think each person has his own identity. He is worshipped because of the way he is. He is by far the most honest and true person you will ever meet. He will be the same to everyone. He is the same to the biggest and the smallest person. He is honest to himself and to what he does," Soundarya said in an interview here.
"He practices what he preaches. I cannot comment on what separates him from his contemporaries but I believe he has his true identity and he is what he is," she said.
Lot of jokes are trending on Rajinikanth and Soundarya feels it is because he can do impossible things.
"There is a lot of undercurrent, of a lot of respect for every Rajinikanth joke. It is not that people come up with these things, it is because my father can do these impossible things, and I think only he can," she said.
Soundarya is making her directorial debut with 'Kochadaiiyaan' with her father in the lead.
It is a hi-tech 3D film with photorealistic motion capture technology, also called as performance capturing technology. Such technology was used in Hollywood films like 'Avatar', 'The Adventures of Tintin', etc. 'Kochadaiiyaan' will take 3D films a step further in India.
Since animation films haven't had a great run at the box-office, Soundarya feels Rajinikanth can be a game changer.
"I believe he will be the game changer because animation has not been understood in our country yet, as it is still considered cartoon. In our country, again because of the lack of budget, time and trained technicians, a lot of films have not done justice to what animation can do," she said.
"People in India still feel animation is Tom and Jerry. Yes, animation is Tom and Jerry but that's not it. Only he can change this myth that animation is not cartoon. I hope that my father will be and I am confident that if at all there is anybody who can break the myth that animation is not cartoon, it is only Mr Rajinikanth," she said.
Rajinikanth feels Soundarya has gone a step ahead with the kind of film she has made and is proud of her.
"He is proud that I dared to something different...He is very proud," she added.

Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif to clash at Box Office

Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif to clash at Box Office

New Delhi: It`s time for another big clash in Bollywood. Two of the top Bollywood divas will be seen competing this Gandhi Jayanti for screen space.

Supposedly, Priyanka Chopra`s `Mary Kom` and Katrina Kaif`s `Bang Bang` will be released on Second October, just before the festive season, this year.

Both the projects are big banner productions and certainly it would be interesting to watch them battle for glory at the Box Office.

One wonders why any of the the directors don`t want to shift their preference of release date instead of warring at the box office and cutting into each other`s profits.

Directed by Siddharth Raj Anand, the screenplay of ‘Bang Bang’ has been written by Sujoy Ghosh and Suresh Nair, while Abbas Tyrewala has penned dialogues for it. It also stars Hrithik Roshan and is a remake of the hit Hollywood movie `Knight and Day`.

`Mary Kom` is being directed by Omung Kumar and produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The movie is based on the real life story of Olympics medallist MC Mary Kom.

Will things turn sour between the two leading actresses, given the date issues that has cropped up?

Well for that we can only wait and watch as the stage is set for confrontation.

Which movie do you think will be successful in impressing the crowd and which will be the one to lose out in the race?

Baby Alia will soon be seen in Karan Johar`s Koffee With Karan where she cannot stop gushing about him.

"I remember the first time I spoke to Ranbir.. You called him up when `Rockstar` released and you said, here talk to Ranbir tell him how much you love him. And I just spoke so much rubbish, I was just talking non-stop. But later I have hung out with Ranbir and I still think he is really adorable and I still want to marry him," Alia said.

When asked if she has expressed her love for him to Ranbir`s mother Neetu Kapoor and more importantly does Katrina Kaif (his rumoured girlfriend) know about it, Alia said, "Everybody knows my plan. I have gone on record and said it as you said.. And I am very open about it except to Ranbir."

It looks that the `Highway` actress has her mind set to date Ranbir, and she promptly came out with his name when asked about her choice to go on a date.

Alia has been often linked with her `Student of the Year` co-stars Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra but she laughs it off saying, "They (Varun and Siddharth) are constantly pulling my leg. O Pari (Parineeti Chopra) is so sexy..O Pari is like this... Pari is like that. But I know that they love me more than her. And its the same with Arjun Kapoor. So that`s fine."

Arjun was paired opposite Parineeti in his debut film `Ishaqzaade`. While Parineeti and Siddharth were seen together in the recently released film `Hasee toh Phasee`.

Apparently, the 21 year old actress denied of her alleged relationship with her `2 States co-actor`, thereby clearing any misconceptions including the two`s affair

On the worst dressed man in Bollywood, she said, "I think Ranveer (Singh) has been really experimenting, sometimes I think it is really cool but sometimes it is a miss."
The upcoming and last episode of the chat show this season will also have Parneeti Chopra as a guest. It will be aired this Sunday on a popular channel.

Fear cancer recurring, but have to be positive: Manisha

Mumbai: Actress Manisha Koirala, who was earlier diagnosed with ovarian cancer and has now recovered, says there is always a fear the disease may recur but she believes in being positive in life.

`I did not take care of my health earlier... I was not looking after myself. It (cancer) made me realise health is important, eating right is important, exercise is required. There is a fear that it (cancer) can come back anytime. But one must be positive,` Manisha said.

Manisha, 43, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012, a type of cancer that is difficult to diagnose and may often be detected late as it does not have typical symptoms.

`Cancer is a huge challenge, a huge test some of us survive and some don`t due to various reasons. There is lot of stigma attached to it (cancer), you lose all hope, your family is also living in negative environment, you feel there is a dead end. But I was fortunate to have people around me who helped me and were there with me emotionally,` Manisha said.

The actress plans to do something for those suffering from the disease.

`Cancer is not the death sentence, there is hope. Science has changed by leaps and bounds. Today we are able to deal with the treatment. I want to raise hope for people who don`t have hope, who don`t have access, resources. I will do something through certain platform... In certain ways. I want to repay back to the needy,` she said.

Manisha said some Bollywood celebrities like Shatrughan Sinha, Tabu and Gulshan Grover enquired about her welfare during her testing times.
